Student Orientation: Your First Step Toward Success
During Student Orientation Week, you will gain the essential information to feel confident, connected, and ready to thrive inside and outside of the classroom. During Orientation Week (O-Week), you will:
- Discover your campus and learning environment
- Meet classmates, staff, and key support teams
- Learn how to stay safe and supported, both online and in person
- Understand the academic expectations and standards
- Get practical advice on study techniques, time management, and using digital learning tools
- Join social events to start building your student community
- Find out who to contact and where to go when you need help
- Embrace the Experience and be part of something bigger from day one.
Academic Support
Need help with your course? You’re not alone. There are several ways to get academic help at LIHE:
Our Lecturers are here to help you learn and succeed. If you’re finding things difficult, don’t wait—talk to your Course Coordinator. They can help you: Understand course or unit requirements. Access academic resources. Make an appointment, raise your concerns, bring your questions, and ensure you’ve completed the readings or attempted the task beforehand.
Ask in class
If you’re unsure about something during a lecture or tutorial, ask. Your question might help others, too.
Your Open Learning Platform
Some helpful Q&As might already be on your unit page—especially if the topic has come up in class before.
Librarian
All LIHE students can get help from qualified tutors and our Librarian with writing, research, subject content, and general study skills.
Academic Progress
To complete your course, you need to maintain satisfactory academic progress. This means:
- Completing your course within the time frame listed in your Letter of Offer
- Passing enough subjects each term to stay on track If you’re finding things difficult, don’t wait—talk to your Course Coordinator. They can help you:
- Understand course or unit requirements
- Access academic resources
- Navigate academic policies and timelines

Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is all about being honest, fair and responsible in your studies. At LIHE, we expect all students to:
- Acknowledge their sources (reference properly)
- Do their own work and sit their own exams
- Follow copyright and privacy rules
- Report research honestly
- Act ethically—even under pressure
Academic misconduct includes
- Plagiarism
- Re-using your own work
- Making up data
- Working with others when not allowed
- Cheating in exams
- Paying someone else to do your work
